Showing the Conservation Atlas at the Legacy Summit
|
|
On July 16, 2003, the Legacy Project wrapped up its series of nine regional workshops by holding a "Summit" for its advisory committee members and other invited guests. Resources Secretary Mary D. Nichols welcomed more than 100 attendees to this half-day meeting, where participants were able to get a sense of the overall results from the Legacy Project's year-long, regional meetings. The event featured remarks by former Assemblywoman Virginia Strom-Martin, who helped initiate the Legacy program, and by Jack Dangermond, president of the geographic information systems company, ESRI, and a major contributor to the Project's signature planning tool, the California Digital Conservation Atlas. The day included a panel discussion of examples in innovative conservation efforts that have both environmental and economic benefits. It finished up with a discussion among the Project's Stakeholder Advisory Committee about workshop results and some of the upcoming plans for the Project.
